An Féileacán Agus an Rí (The Butterfly and the King)

The distinguished author Myra Zepf, Northern Ireland’s first-ever Children's Writing Fellow, has joined forces with choreographer Clara Kerr, to create a new dance piece commissioned by Holywood Shared Town.

The dance piece is a portrayal of Myra’s new book, An Féileacán agus an Rí (The Butterfly and the King), a very beautiful 1,000 year-old Irish myth about Éadaoin, turned into a butterfly by a jealous rival for the love of King Mír. This is a modern retelling, with the female character steering the story for the first time. It is stunningly illustrated by Shona Shirley Macdonald.

The piece is narrated in Irish (with English translation) by Myra, alongside Shona Shirley Macdonald’s beautiful images creating a breath-taking backdrop to the dance, brought to life by the up-and-coming video artist, Fergus Kerr. All-in-all, a unique showcase highlighting the great talents of some of our outstanding Holywood artists.
